Let’s Straighten It Out

A couple of weeks ago I began straightening some things out in my life and did something I’ve wanted to do for years. I stopped putting it aside and I got some braces. That’s right, braces!! Ok, so here’s a little back story behind my decision. Ever since I was younger, I’ve always wanted braces. It was so bad that I would take a piece of foil and fold it over my teeth to make it look like I had them. After getting fussed at by my mom for using her foil, I was told I wasn’t getting them and that I would grow out of it (whatever that meant). The crazy thing was I didn’t want them to correct the problem, I wanted them because I thought they were cool!!

Fast-forward to today, let’s just say, I didn’t grow out of it. I noticed that as an adult I became insecure about smiling and showing my teeth. I began to zoom in a little more on my pictures and tell myself what I didn’t like about my smile. Listen!!! Self-esteem is a trip!!! Especially when it gets low, and to top it off dealing with it in your 40’s. Honey, that’s another story for another time!! Anyway, I stopped zooming in and did something about it!!

I’ve had my braces now for almost 2 weeks, and the epiphany I got from these elements had me in the mirror like…Are you serious??!! These little brackets that are bonded to my teeth and secured with wire, will force enough pressure on my teeth to eventually straighten and align them? That’s when it hit me!! It’s time to apply pressure in the areas of my life that I want to see straightened out!! Pressure can be through prayer, reading God’s word, or just using our faith!!

Ask yourself , in what areas of your life do you need to apply pressure? Whatever they are, this is the time to do it. It doesn’t matter how small of a start you make, just start. Think about those little metal brackets and wire that are going to make a difference!! Just like braces, it may be painful and cause discomfort at first, but the results are worth it!! You’ve got this!! You are not your yesterday. Exhale and make room for better!!
